Impact seminar: creative storytelling

Date: 8 November 2024

Times: 10.00-11.30

Venue: online

Description: “Join us to hear how three different archives developed creative ways to tell the stories of their collections, whilst developing community partnerships. The three case studies include:

Bath Record Office

Richard Meunier, Record Office Manager, will talk about the engagement project, ‘Imagine: 100 Years of Housing Bath’. Working with two community groups and an artist, the project involved a series of creative workshops where local residents had the opportunity to engage with Bath’s housing archive whilst exploring different artistic techniques.

Knowsley Archives

Lin Rice, Librarian: Community History, will explore how the archive collaborated with Merseyside Polonia to translate and exhibit the Stefan Skura collection. Throughout this project the archive developed new relationships with the polish community, developing volunteers’ skills and creating a sense of belonging. The project led to two exhibitions, ‘Famous & Unknown: Discover Polish Migration stories’, which tracked both the life of Skura and the composer and pianist, Frederic Chopin.

Lothian Health Service Archive (LHSA)

Louise Williams, Archivist, will discuss the project ‘Speaking Out’ which provided access to the Lothian Gay and Lesbian Switchboard collection. LHSA tapped into existing networks, including LGBT Youth Scotland and LGBT Health and Wellbeing’s ‘LGBT Age’ project, to engage their local queer community by running a series of creative workshops, the outputs of which were developed into a digital exhibition.

The three presentations will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A.”
